What is Pure Gold ? |
|
We call 24 Karat gold as pure gold since it is not treated with any other metal and is not adulterated: it is precious and it's pure. Other qualities of gold – 14K, 18K or 22K - are called not pure gold, but gold alloy (for example: 18 Karat gold, is only three quarters (75 %) pure gold ). They are mixed with some combination of silver and/or copper. This serves to dilute the "precious" gold component and, of course to change the color. For example, copper reddens the gold where silver greens it. More important, they make the jewelry subject to corrosion. Pure gold itself does not corrode, but its primary alloys with copper or silver will do so forming very dark chemical compounds under moist or wet conditions. If you perspire, fatty acids released by your body can cause corrosion of 18 Karat (or lower) gold. This problem can be worse in coastal and humid areas where sea salt in the air combines with perspiration and discolors skin. The chlorine, which is routinely added to the swimming pools and spas, is one of the worst enemies of gold. Corrosion can weaken gold's structure, eventually leading to breakage. |
The Characteristic Color of Pure Gold |
|
Pure gold has a characteristic color and even with the minimum addition of alloy the color of gold can be changed. To give the special and distinctive color of pure gold to the accessories and watches in silver, steel and other metals or lower carat gold alloys, it is a wide spread technique to electroplate jewelry with 24K gold. These gold-plated accessories soon lose their color as the electroplating wears off. The Kurtulan jewelry products are produced only with pure gold and they do not undergo any electroplating process. Therefore, the alluring color of pure gold that is delectable in our products lasts forever. |
24K Gold is Tradition |
|
It is a well-known fact that ancient civilizations treasured pure gold and used it to make objects for their most important rituals. The famous pieces of Anatolian, Egyptian, Mexican and Peruvian civilizations would not last if they were made of anything less than 24 Karat gold. Look no further than the nearest museum where gold jewelry, coins and artifacts from ancient civilizations are standing proof of the enduring beauty and permanence of pure gold. |
24K Gold for Therapeutic Jewelry |
|
Another advantage of 24-karat gold can be said to be its conductivity. Gold is the most electrically conductive
metal. In its pure form, it allows even the tiniest electrical currents to flow through. This is very important in
gemstone therapy. Gemstones have been used throughout civilizations and across many cultures for healing
and strength. Each gemstone carries a distinct vibration energy that helps enhance our natural ability to heal. |
Why are the Kurtulan Products labeled as 985K Gold ? |
|
When a gold accessory is made, it is necessary to weld some pieces together and for this process it is requisite to find another gold-solder, that melts in a lower temperature than the gold alloy which is being worked on. This is made with metals such as cadmium and/or zinc instead of copper and silver. However, if you are working on an accessory of pure gold (not any other metal involved in it), the only way to make a solder for pure gold artifacts is to lower the carat of the gold slightly and make an alloy with another metal. Thanks to more than a decade of experience, Kurtulan Jewelry has managed to bring the pure gold-solder alloy to 985/1000(=23,64K). This special solder's color is very close to identical to that of pure color. It is very remarkable that this solder alloy has not been achieved by any other artisan, in the jewelry sector up to now. The artifacts, that are being produced form pure gold and welded with a 985/1000 solder, can be labeled as 24 K pure gold by many foreign countries legislations. However, according to the Turkish legislative procedures the label value of the artifact cannot surpass its solder value and this is carefully examined by the national mint. Therefore, though Kurtulan jewelry produces pure gold artifacts, they are labeled as 985 K GOLD |
